More information about SandStorm Chinese Crested Puppies
The Chinese Crested is a very old breed thought to have originated in Asia and worked on merchant ships as a ratter. The breed was practically gone until Gypsy Rose Lee brought a couple of dogs back to America and then the breed grew until finally in 1991 they became accepted as part of the AKC registry.
Chinese Cresteds come in 2 varieties, the hairless and the powderpuff which is the coated version. Some people prefer one over the other, my preference is the "right dog".
These dogs are intelligent, loving, little clowns. They bring so much joy to my household and life, I can't imagine being without them. I have found them to be versatile in their abilities - just because they are part of the Toy Group, doesn't mean they aren't capable of performance events such as obedience, agility, tracking and now we are successfully enjoying the fun new sport of Barn Hunting.

I have been extremely fortunate with my very small breeding program in that I've produced, happy, healthy, versatile Chinese Crested puppies that have excelled in the show ring and performance events and just as importantly, have gone to wonderful families who love, train and enjoy their cherished Cresteds as companions and competition animals.
I keep track of every pup, enjoy hearing about them and getting those wonderful picture Christmas cards every year!

One reason I have purposely kept the program small is that while it is my intent to produce quality animals that are capable of doing just about any activity you want while looking beautiful doing it, I am not on a mission to fill the world with "my dogs". I take lots of time to research and understand pedigrees, perform health and genetic testing as well as titling potential parents and only produce a litter when I want a Chinese Crested for myself. Another important consideration is will a breeding contribute positively to the betterment of the Chinese Crested breed?
In the USA the AKC Chinese Crested breed standard calls for an erect ear, so I pay attention to thickness of ear leather - otherwise those ears will have difficulty standing; likewise puffs are required to have full dentition, so regardless of puff or hairless, teeth and jaw structure are important. I expect the same reach, drive and beautiful gaits in my Cresteds as I do in my sporting breeds, as well as happy, outgoing attitudes and dogs that are beautiful examples of the Chinese Crested breed.

Puppies are great fun but they also require a great deal of responsibility, attention, sleep deprivation (me not them), proper socialization, introductions to other animals, people and veterinary care even before they are born to ensure they have the right foundation whether they stay with me or go to a new, carefully selected home.
Don't be fooled.... these are no little foo-foo dogs! While they are beautiful and intelligent their history and background means that they can be good little watchdogs, they are extremely fast and they will typically live a long time. They are no different than any other dog in that they need training, housebreaking and they are happiest when they have a "job". While the hairless dogs need a coat in cold weather, the Chinese Crested is NOT a fashion accessory.
